COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE
1ST ANNUAL REUNION OF THE
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT COLLEGE ILORIN
OLD STUDENTS ASSOCIATION (NOV.12-13, 2010)
1.0 Attendance
The reunion of the Federal Government College Ilorin Old Students Association was held on November 12th -13th, 2010, at Ilorin, Kwara State.
Close to 200 old students participated actively at the Reunion events including the following prominent old students:
Professor Ademola Popoola, Dean Faculty of Law, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife
- Mr. Olu Shodimu, Registrar, University of Lagos
- Mr. Dotun Adeniyi, Executive Director, Skye Bank Plc.
- Mr. Obeahon Ohiwerei, Executive Director, Access Bank Plc.
- Dr Amuda Kanike, Commissioner for Sports, Kwara State
- Sir Debo Aderibigbe, KSC, Law & Immigration Consultant, Abuja
- Evang. Patience Bassey – Gospel Song Coordinator, Lagos
2.0 Activities
- Courtesy visit to the Emir of Ilorin
- Dinner with the Old students and current students in the school dining hall.
- Annual General Meeting of the Old Students
- Election of Interim National Executive Committee Members of the Federal Government College Ilorin Old Students Association
- Guided Tour & Assessment of the School Physical Structures & Infrastructure
- Novelty Football Tournament involving the various Old Students Branches and the current school
- Dinner/Fund Raising at Kwara Hotel
3.0 Address
The reunion was addressed by the following people:

4.0 Observations
The Old Student association observed the following:
- The decay in the infrastructures of the school after a crucial inspection of the school premises
- The perceived segregation of the students at the Assembly Hall, Dining Hall, Hostels and Sports Venues
5.0 Resolutions
The Old Students at the reunion hereby resolved as follows:
- The Federal Government was commended for retaining the concept of Unity schools in Nigeria to foster unity among youths in the country.
- They urged the Federal Government and the School Management to embark on capacity building of the staff of the school both academic and non-academic staff.
- The reunion to continue to serve as a medium for the Old Students and the School Management, School Based Management Board, Parents / Teachers Association and Students to interact and explore possible areas of bringing development to the school.
- The original admission and management policy of Unity Schools to reflect Federal Character and Secularity should be retained and be followed strictly in admission and conduct of students by both the School Management and the Federal Ministry of Education.
- An Interim National Executive Committee was elected to run the affairs of the association for the next one year with focus on drafting a constitution for the old students association and effecting the registration of the Federal Government College Ilorin Old Students Association with the Corporate Affairs Commission.
- The Interim National Executive Committee should organize another reunion program and Annual General Meeting for 2011.
- To establish contact with the National Assembly and Federal Ministry of Education for intervention and completion of abandoned capital projects in the school.
- That all old students of the school and other unity schools were admonished to always participate actively in their various alumni activities.
